Holiday Ops 2017 / 2018 Loot Box Value Guide
13Disciple | 1-Dec-2018
TL;DR - The holiday loot boxes are a good gold value if you are looking to add gold to your account. If you are buying them for gold, it is not gambling because you will get your money's worth in gold.
If you are only buying them for a chance at the rare Type 59, then you are gambling with your money and I do NOT recommend purchasing boxes.

For this guide I purchased 3, $100 dollar loot box bundles. Each bundle contained 75 loot boxes. I recorded what came out of every single loot box.
You can see all of the raw data I recorded here.

This data shows that even if you opened 75 boxes and didn't open a single tank, you were still getting your money's worth in gold, credits, and premium time.
However, beyond the raw value opened in each box, there were also tanks that could be found. If you already owned the tank then you were credited with it's value in gold, and also given 1 garage slot.

If I convert all items that were generated into their gold value, then I can calculate the exact value of a box or the value per dollar of each bundle. Here are the conversion values I used. This is the portion of the article that is up for debate and where we might disagree. I'm listing what I believe should be considered the gold value, however you may use the raw data linked earlier in the article and assign your own values to determine the value of the boxes.
Inscriptions / Emblems = 0 gold (I've chosen not to include the value of non-historic inscriptions and emblems)
Credits: 400 credits = 1 gold (regular conversion in the garage)
Premium Time: 1 day = 67 gold (regular cost of 360 days of premium time for 24,000 gold in the garage - best gold per premium day value)
Garage Slots: 1 slot = 300 gold (regular cost of 1 garage slot for 300 gold in the garage)
Tanks: (The gold value of a tank was pulled from the World of Tanks Wiki. This is confirmed as when I opened boxes there would be large gold values in place of the tanks that were randomly drawn.)
T28 w/ F30: 1200 gold
AC1 Sentinel: 1200 gold
Skorpion G: 10900 gold
Type 59: 7500 gold
If you already own a tank when it's opened in a loot box, it doesn't show what tank it is, it simply rewards the gold value and garage slot. Because of this I'm going to show the value of each tank I didn't already own, and then another value for all tanks I already owned.

When we add the gold value of all items to the gold we got from the boxes, the total is an astonishing 210,432 gold.
210,432 gold / 225 boxes = 935 gold per box on average
210,432 gold / $300 USD = 701 gold per $1 USD
However, not all loot box packages are the same value. This table determines the gold value of each package based on 935 gold / box.

* For the sake of this calculation I rounded up each cost by 1 cent.
If we consider the frequent war chest bundle of 25,000 gold for $100 USD which yields 250 gold per $1 USD, then it becomes obvious the actual value of these bundles.
For the sake of argument, lets back up and do the same math again, but ONLY use the ACTUAL gold that I received to my account.
Raw Gold Value from Boxes: 80,750
Raw Gold From Duplicate Tanks: 52,600
Total Actual Gold: 133,350
133,350 / 225 boxes = 592 gold / box
133,350 / $300 USD = 445 gold / USD
Even if we exclude the premium time, credits, and tanks that were generated from the boxes, they are still a better raw gold value than the typical war chest.
I used this event to stock up on gold and have not needed to purchase gold (or premium time for that matter) for over a year.
